Today it's more like Spring than Winter that's why I'm spending time on the computer

While I was surfing (the web) I came across this neat little guide on the Spring Cottage Lie Show"s website.

This is for the time when your outboard boat motor does not want to start. This handy little flow chart can get you started or at least save you time and cash when you bring it to the marina. There is something that the "handy marina guy" can work with. Telling or indicating what you did on a work order can save time. At least he won't have to do all the same steps that you just covered. On the other hand "it wont start" on the work order means he/she will have to do the diagnostics $$$.

Print it off and post it on the fridge with all the other important notes. Actually, post it on the both fridges, the one at the cottage and the other at home.

Yes it feels more like spring but winter is really just around the corner

The marina is now and has been in winter mode for more than three weeks now. Yet, there is still little evidence that Rice Lake will be frozen over before Christmas because there are still open areas in McGregor Bay and the big part of Rice Lake is still wide open.

It is hard to get into the spirit of the season. Even with the lights and decorations and of course the Christmas Tree in all it's splendor, it's just not, well you know what I mean . No snow yet just green grass! With about a month to go Jan. 12 2012 before the "Toronto International Boat Show" opens it feels more like boating weather, than the season for skiing.

If you are looking for that family gift for the boat or cottage then conciser an IOU/Gift Card under the tree for that special purchase from the boat show. It looks like there are extra savings in store again this year at the Tohatsu and Nissan Booth. This year we will have a second location in the back section to introduce our NEW INFLATABLE Boat The "DURAS". I will be posting on the boat in a couple of weeks. Great product at a fantastic price.

If you have any questions please give us a call or email because we are still around to answer your questions.

The chill is in the air, nights are cooler and the days are shorter. The light is not as bright and the plants are starting to come to the end of their vibrancy. Yes, it's tie to think of putting away some of the summer toys. It's time to start thinking about boat winterizing and storage.
Remember if the boat and motor  are put to bed for the winter properly the more likely they that they will be ready to go in the spring.
Book early.

A perfect weekend to rent a boat

The weather is hot all over but not as bad as in the city, I know I was there on Thursday. Toronto was brutal hear was radiating from everywhere and everything. No breeze, even by the harbor the air was hot and moist. What a difference from Rice Lake, even when I returned the temperature was 35C but it felt cooler, the greenery and the breeze from the lake was a welcome change from the city.

Weekend or mid-week anytime is the best time to get out on Rice Lake and enjoy nature or take in a little fishing. Our boats are ready to go.

Bass opened today on Rice Lake the weather was OK not too warm, just right. There were more boats out today than on a normal week-end. Can't wait for my first feed of fresh bass fillets Tonight!

Rentals, Sales, Service and everything else Marina

RENTALS:
Sometimes you win and others times are exasperating. Tonight I spent 3 hours looking for a boat rental that called in at 8:30pm having run out of gas... They made it to shore and called just minutes after having reported the incident to the OPP. One good thing they were only a 10 minute drive away and all aboard were safe. Will have to get the boat to tomorrow morning. No money in that rental.

SALES
I have been busy trying to get everything done between rain showers and it at times a little trying!

SERVICE Ditto..

All in all the weekend is here. Take advantage of out boat rental special and don't forget to to buy your button for the Rice Lake Lake Spring fishing festival. So far there are two prize winners bot still many more prizes to be caught

The Rice Lake Spring Fishing Festival and Walleye Season STARTED TODAY

Celebration Day May 14th

Although it was a soggy Vancouver day here on Rice Lake, that wasn’t enough of a deterrent for some die hard walleye anglers on the season opener. We were fairly busy here at the Marina with boat rentals and seasonal dockers’ requiring assistance. It was a toss up if it was successful or not, as usual “some were lucky others were NOT.

Not only was today a red letter day for walleye but this was the start of the RICE LAKE SPRING FISHING FESTIVAL! So far all tagged fish are still out there as of 7:02 PM on the opener.

Get your rain gear out if you plan to go out in the next several days because the weather man is saying that we can expect more RAIN. Oh Joy.

Recovering after the Storm The winds were unreal

Our area was hit with winds clocked at about 100KMH. There was all kinds of damage around us. Trees on buildings, trailers knocked off of their footings, and add-a-rooms were destroyed.

The wind was so strong that it almost blew me off the dock when we were trying to move boats.
The barge was shifted, a couple docks were moved and some damage was done but all in all we were spared. While others lost docks and suffered more damage than we did it was still a harrowing experience. All of this while we are still trying to get caught up from all the wind and rain.

Our troubles are only a minor inconvenience compared to the devastating storms they have been experiencing in the southern states. After experiencing the wind we had on Thursday and being without electricity for 12 hours gave me a different view on what the survivors of the tornadoes down south are suffering through. My heart goes out to them.

On a lighter side The Ontario Chinese Anglers Association held their Crappie and Perch tournament here on Saturday. There was a good turnout and the weather was most cooperative. Approximately 10 boats launched and there were several happy faces at the weigh-in.
It was a pleasure to have the Association here and I hope to see them again in the future.

The Rice Lake Spring Fishing Festival is now only days away It Starts on May 14th. It is time to start getting ready. First by purchasing a button either from us or go on line at www.ricelakespringfishingfestival.ca and follow the links. Has spring arrived?

Sunday April 17, 2011

What a change from a couple of days ago. The weather has turned around on a dime!

Yesterday was brutal and unfortunately we had to work mostly outside. A couple of days ago it was seasonable mild and spring like, yesterday it was bone chilling. Cold, frightfully windy, at any time we expected the shelter to blow away. A mixture of heavy down pours of rain mixed with snow added to an already level of discomfort that was almost unbearable. Working in a major winter storm would have been easier!

Today it is a little better, still the wind is biting, the bay has white caps, the temperature hasn’t decided if it wants to stay above the freezing mark or make the plunge. They are calling for snow a little later. This kind of weather make you feel a little more comfortable while watching the hockey play-offs. The sun is trying to come out but I think that I will stay inside a little longer. As I type this blog out, it has started to snow, OH JOY!

The count down has started to the Rice Lake Spring Fishing Festival www.ricelakespringfishingfestival.com it starts May 14 2011 and runs through to June 19 2011. Check the website for more details and deals. Highland View Resort www.highlandview.com and McGregor Bay Marina www.mcgregorbaymarina.com are offering great deals for the duration of the Festival.

We have our fishing boats already in so boat rentals are available. The black crappie and gills are already active it’s the perfect time catch these delicious treats.

Eventually spring will arrive in earnest so this the time to get your motor ready for the summertime you can avoid the rush and disappointment so get it done now. The sooner that you get them in the sooner we get them back to you.
